Position Summary

Watchmaker Genomics is inviting applications for an on-site, full-time position of a Logistics Coordinator in our Cape Town office. This position reports to the Logistics Manager and will play a pivotal role in orchestrating the movement of materials and products to meet production and customer requirements efficiently. The responsibilities of the role will be to coordinate and optimize logistics processes and contribute significantly to the overall success of the manufacturing operation. In addition to above mentioned responsibilities also creating and maintaining accurate records of shipments and resolving any related issues promptly. The position requires a detail-oriented, proactive individual with strong communication skills and a solid understanding of logistics in a manufacturing context.

Responsibilities

Material Planning:

  • Forecasting material needs based on production schedules and customer demands
  • Collaborating with suppliers to ensure timely and adequate supply of raw materials

Inventory Management:

  • Monitoring and managing inventory levels to prevent shortages or excess stock
  • Maintaining efficient inventory control measures to optimize storage space and reduce costs

Order Processing:

  • Coordinating with various departments to process and fulfill customer orders
  • Ensuring accurate and timely order picking, packing, and shipping

Transportation Coordination:

  • Arranging transportation for incoming materials and outgoing finished goods
  • Optimizing transportation routes to reduce costs and improve delivery times

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Collaborating with production, procurement, and distribution teams to streamline processes
  • Communicating with suppliers, carriers, and internal stakeholders to resolve issues and ensure a seamless supply chain

Documentation and Record Keeping:

  • Maintaining accurate records of inventory levels, shipments, and material receipts
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards

Problem Resolution:

  • Identifying and resolving logistics and supply chain issues promptly.
  • Implementing corrective actions to prevent recurring problems.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Analyzing logistics processes to identify areas for improvement
  • Implementing efficiency measures and cost-saving initiatives

Technology Utilization:

  • Utilizing logistics and supply chain management software to track shipments, manage inventory, and optimize processes
  • Staying informed about industry trends and technological advancements to enhance logistics operations

Risk Management:

  • Identifying potential risks in the supply chain and developing contingency plans.
  • Mitigating risks related to transportation delays, supplier issues, and other logistical challenges.
Required Qualifications and Experience
  • Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with the manufacturing industry, understanding production processes, and knowledge of the specific challenges and requirements associated with manufacturing logistics
  • Regulatory Compliance: Familiarity with regulatory requirements related to shipping, transportation, and import/export regulations
  • Logistics Operations: Proven track record of successfully overseeing logistics operations, implementing process improvements, and managing or supporting a team of logistics professionals
  • Planning: Experience in strategic planning, decision-making, and contributing to the development and execution of logistics strategies aligned with business goals
  • Technical Proficiency: Proven experience in using logistics and supply chain management software. Successful application of inventory management systems and technology tools to optimize logistics processes

 

Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a logistics, business, supply chain discipline with 5+ years of relevant experience in a logistics or manufacturing environment
    or
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in a logistics or manufacturing environment
The candidate must demonstrate the following skills
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for coordinating with various stakeholders, including suppliers, production teams, and distribution partners
  • Analytical Skills: The ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make informed decisions to optimize logistics processes
  • Organizational Skills: Effective organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines
  • Customer Focus: For positions involving customer orders, having a customer-focused mindset ensures that shipments are timely, accurate, and meet customer expectations
  • Negotiation Skills: Negotiating with suppliers, carriers, and other partners may be part of the role. Strong negotiation skills can help in securing favorable terms and resolving issues effectively
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Proven ability to identify and resolve logistics-related issues promptly and effectively
The candidate must demonstrate the following personal attributes:
  • Detail-Oriented: The ability to pay close attention to details is crucial for managing inventory, processing orders accurately, and ensuring shipments are error-free
