Position Summary

Watchmaker Genomics is inviting applications for the full-time position of Test Method Development Scientist. This position reports to the Process Development and NPD Team Lead and will be responsible for the development and validation of new test methods to support on-market and novel products as part of the New Product Development process. This is meant to ensure smooth transfers of manufacturing and QC processes to Production with the ultimate goal of having the customer’s experience with Watchmaker’s products reflect the quality of design embedded in each of our products. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in test method development and validation for molecular biology applications and operating under the guidance of a quality system. Familiarity with NGS and the ISO 13485:2016 standard is a plus.

Responsibilities
  • Design and execute statistically powered test method validation studies, develop data processing and report templates, and troubleshoot assays and instruments
  • Author, review and approve test methods, procedures, specifications, and validation documents
  • Mentor and train analysts on test methods and laboratory procedures, good documentation practices, data review, and other QC quality systems
  • Lead the development and transfer of assay protocols for deployment into routine QC to support on-market products and new product development
  • Identify opportunities for internal QC assay process improvement and lead implementation
  • Contribute to the product QC strategy and drive future technology
  • Assist in the onboarding and qualification of new laboratory instruments. Author user requirement specifications, IOQ protocols, data integrity risk assessments, and operation and maintenance
  • Produce and communicate analysis reports to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Work collaboratively with team members to achieve individual and team goals
  • Operate under the guidance of Watchmaker’s Quality System to assist in the implementation and adherence to ISO13485 standards
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
Required Qualifications

The candidate should have a Ph.D. in molecular biology, or a closely related field with 2+ years of industry experience. 

The following skills and experience are requirements for the position:

  • Skilled at building and managing schedules, timelines, and resource allocation
  • Experience in the development of assays that support commercialization of products in the molecular biology, synthetic biology, and genomics space
  • Experience in next-generation sequencing is a plus
  • 2+ years of experience working in a medical device or pharmaceutical company
  • Knowledge of ISO standards (13485:2016)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work as an effective member of a goal-oriented team
  • Adept and creative problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, build, troubleshoot, complete and scalable software solutions to advanced data analysis problems
  • Rigorous data analysis skills, including
  • Excellent organizational skills and outstanding attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Education and Experience
  • The candidate should have a Ph.D. in molecular biology, or a closely related field with 2+ years of industry experience.
Compensation

Compensation for this role includes a base salary of $72,000 – $78,000 + bonus + equity; actual pay will be adjusted based on skills and experience. Employees are eligible for Flexible Time Off, Holidays, Medical, Dental, Vision, Life/AD&D, and a 401(k) retirement plan.
